Well hopefully you got the good as well as the bad out of it. There has been more written about the pitfalls of expecting SharePoint to be a magic bullet lately that reiterate my point about broken processes and people problems that are the source of pain rather than any given content management system. Bud Porter-Roth with Integrated Solutions Magazine agrees.

Hear Hear.

You make the point, but don't emphasize it quite the way I would if I were making the case--it all comes down to the perspective from which SP was developed by Microsoft. Or what did they *think* they were developing when they developed it?

In fact and deed, it seems pretty clear that the mission behind Microsoft's Sharepoint development project was to create a platform that a) provides extensive Office (their real "platform") lock-in and b) offers CMS functionality.

Which is to say, it was never first and foremost a development platform, or if it was it was only expected to be used as an extension of that *other* development platform, Office. And it's pretty rare in software that things grow beyond their initial DNA without much additional development, so here we are stuck with Microsoft's (IMO limited) vision for Sharepoint.

Read "Breaking Windows" and you'll see this perspective in action over and over again. They call it the "Windows Tax," though there is now a corollary in "Office Tax." Thou shalt not develop anything that might, when released to the marketplace, tend to undercut [Windows | Office], and in fact, you should work harder to bend your innovation so that it sells more [Windows | Office].

And unfortunately, profound mediocrity is the result. Thanks for having the honesty to just say it.

Yeah I know about the "compatibility issues" of BizTalk and
VS 2008...and i know that it is announced that the matter will be solved with BizTalk 2009....but it is too far away for me..so I hope that at that MS event webinar you mentioned someone might offer a quick and easy soulution to it....but seriously I do expect a solution to be presented but for the easy and quick part I seriously doubt it...

This is a known issue and is solved with the release of BizTalk 2009 early next year.

As always the BizTalk and Viz studio offerings are out of sync...

Have you tried building the smart art in PowerPoint and then right clicking to save as picture first rather than using the clipboard to get it into Paint.Net? I have had better results with that method for the task you're describing.
